Empowering artists, elevating artistry.

Our story

Inspired by traditional art forms by blending Japanese techniques and 17th-century French and Venetian craftsmanship, our 3D paper sculptures breathe life into flat prints, each meticulously crafted with multiple layers and intricate paper shaping. These delicate paper pieces are individually positioned in place, with translucent gloss added as the final layer, creating a captivating three dimensional effect. Each piece takes 2-3 days to make.

We also collaborate with local artists to feature their artwork and uncover new depths within their 2D creations. Together we embark on a journey of exploration, seeking out the hidden layers that are yet to be shared with you.

About the maker

Paper Crepes is based in the Bay Area and founded by Elina Lin, a first-generation Chinese American with a unique background in product design and mechanical engineering.

Her journey to paper crafting started at age 10, where she would spend hours in flow state, working out visual arrangements, savoring the satisfaction of cutting and shaping paper. As a child, this process became her sanctuary amidst life's chaos, in which she discovered her love of slow art.

As an adult, Elina revisited paper crafting when she decided to gift each of her grandparents their favorite flowers on their 90th birthdays. Seeing how it connected her loved ones and brought deep meaning to this work, Paper Crepes was born.

How its made

It starts with an original piece of artwork. From there, we embark on an intricate process of transforming these artworks from 2D to 3D. Each step, from meticulous cutting to precise rearrangement, is infused with care and attention to detail.

Sealed with Varnish

Coats of varnish are applied as a finishing touch, preserving craftsmanship and ensuring that our art stands the test of time.

Matted and Framed

We frame each of our pieces in premium glass shadowboxes that are ready for display.

Cut, Sculpted, Assembled

Each layer is designed and then meticulously cut, with the top-most layer paper sculpted to reality. The assembly process everything to life.

Curated with intention

The design process begins with original artwork that have potential of being deconstructed into multiple layers.
